First Look: The All-New 2027 Scott Spark RC Expert
The new 2027 Scott Spark RC Expert has arrived at Cookson Cycles, and this is our first look at Scott’s latest cross-country race bike.
The Spark RC has long been one of Scott’s most important race bikes, with a strong reputation in World Cup cross-country racing. For 2027, Scott has gone much further than a simple update. This is a completely new frame platform, built around modern XC racing and designed to improve the bike as a complete system.
We have managed to secure one of the first 2027 Scott Spark RC Expert bikes available in the UK, giving us an early opportunity to take a closer look at what has changed.
A Completely New Spark RC Frame
The biggest news is the frame. The 2027 Spark RC uses a brand-new layout, with a redesigned rear suspension system and a new horizontal rear shock position.
Scott has kept the key Spark RC DNA, but the shape, layout and engineering approach are very different from the previous generation. This is not just a colour change or a minor model-year update. It is a proper redesign of Scott’s flagship XC race platform.
New Horizontal Shock Layout
One of the most noticeable changes is the new horizontal shock layout. The rear shock now sits low in the frame, helping Scott lower the bike’s centre of gravity and improve overall weight distribution.
For modern XC racing, this matters. Tracks are faster, rougher and more technical than ever, so control, grip and confidence are just as important as low weight.
The Spark RC Expert keeps 120mm of rear travel paired with 120mm up front, keeping the bike firmly focused on fast cross-country and marathon riding.
Designed For Better Ride Dynamics
Scott’s aim with the new Spark RC was not simply to chase the lowest possible weight figure. The focus is on making the whole bike faster: better grip, better traction, better power transfer and more control when riding at speed.
By placing the shock low in the frame and refining the suspension kinematics, Scott has worked to create a bike that feels responsive, planted and predictable across technical terrain.
That should make the new Spark RC especially well suited to modern XC courses, where riders need to climb efficiently, carry speed through rough sections and stay composed on fast descents.
Improved Shock Compatibility
Another major update is rear shock compatibility. The new frame has been designed to work with a wide range of current rear shocks, including standard air shocks, piggyback shocks and coil shocks.
This gives riders much more flexibility when it comes to tuning the bike for different riding styles, terrain and race conditions.
Serviceability Has Clearly Been A Priority
Fully integrated race bikes can sometimes be awkward to work on, but Scott has clearly put a lot of thought into making the new Spark RC easier to maintain.
The rear shock is accessed through a magnetic cover, giving easier access for setup, adjustment and servicing. Under the same cover, Scott has also integrated storage for the Save The Day kit.
The frame also uses larger double-sealed bearings, designed to improve durability and long-term performance.
New Octopus Cable Routing System
The new Spark RC continues with headset-routed cables for a clean, integrated appearance. This type of routing can put some riders off, as it can sometimes make maintenance more complicated.
However, Scott has addressed this with its new Octopus cable routing system. The frame uses internal sleeves and guide liners to help route cables and hoses through the bike more easily.
That should make future cable and hose replacement much simpler than on many fully integrated bikes, which is a very welcome improvement for riders and workshops alike.

The Spark RC Expert comes with a very strong suspension package for this level of bike.

The 2027 Scott Spark RC Expert is equipped with Shimano’s latest XT Di2 wireless shifting.

- Brakes: Shimano M6220 4-piston brakes
The wireless XT Di2 rear derailleur gives the bike fast, precise electronic shifting, while the Shimano 4-piston brakes provide the stopping power needed for modern technical XC riding.
Race-Ready Wheels And Tyres
The Spark RC Expert comes fitted with Syncros Silverton AL 2 wheels and Maxxis Aspen tyres.

Our First Impressions
The new Spark RC Expert feels like a much more complete redesign than many model updates. The horizontal shock layout will probably be the first thing most riders notice, but the serviceability improvements are just as interesting.
The easier shock access, internal cable sleeves, magnetic cover and improved bearing design all suggest Scott has listened closely to riders and mechanics. This is still a highly integrated race bike, but it appears to be a much easier bike to live with than many fully integrated designs.
