All-new Trek X-Caliber and Trek Roscoe available now – 2018
Hardtails have long been the standard choice for cross country riding and racing due to their unmatched simplicity and efficiency, but the popularity of the 29+ Stache shows that those traits also appeal to many trail riders. In order to meet the demand for trail-ready hardtails, Trek is offering a new trail hardtail called Roscoe alongside the brand-new X-Caliber cross country bike. While these two platforms will be offered at similar price points, each offers a unique riding experience.
Both platforms feature an Alpha Gold Aluminium frame with tubing that has been carefully manipulated according to advanced FEA analysis to provide the best balance of strength, weight, and ride quality. The new frames include high-end features like internal dérailleur and dropper post cable routing, tapered head tubes, chainstay mounted brakes, and Boost141 hub spacing, which provides the same benefits of Boost148 in an open-dropout configuration. Riders get stronger wheels, shorter, more manoeuvrable chainstays, and more tyre clearance. The 31.6mm seat tube also opens both platforms up to ever-popular dropper post upgrades.
X-Caliber gets a spec package that appeals to the classic XC crowd. It’s focused on speed and efficiency, with Smart Wheel Sizing that pairs the fastest wheel size with each frame size. All X-Caliber models feature 100mm forks for quick handling, 2x Shimano drivetrains for the right gear and cadence in any situation, and rigid seat posts for saving weight.
Roscoe is more laid back, dressed in spec that’s ready to party out on the trail. It’s focused on capability and versatility, with 27.5+ wheels and tyres paired with a 120mm fork for the confidence to take on the most challenging trails. Wider bars and shorter stems provide stable trail handling, while 1x drivetrains keep shifting reliable and simple. Select Roscoe models even get a dropper post, which adds huge value and capability for the customer.
